Blogging

The Traildogs Site Blog is a way for us to exchange ideas and make comments on any aspect of our Traildogs activity.

Blogs are pretty easy to use . . . you can enter a new comment at anytime or reply to an existing comment . . . or even reply to a reply.

All replies are grouped together in a chronological sequence to form a "conversation thread" for each new comment. This makes it easy to review the entire flow of thought and commentary for any given comment.

Blogging might seem a little confusing at first, but once you get used to it, you'll find that it is very effective for exchanging ideas within our Traildogs group.

Hey Roy,

This is a test of a new blog thread . . . anyone can reply to it by clicking on '"reply" . . or they can open a new blog thread by clicking on "new comment"

Roy,

this is an example of a second blog (conversation) thread . . . just to show the difference in a user's ability to reply to different comments

I just took a tour of the new web site and I can't believe how good it is. Everything is well organized, entertaining, and informative, without being too cluttered. Can't wait to spend more time on the web site, especially as it grows. Appreciate all the hard work.

Roy indicated we should concentrate our hikes around south Lake Tahoe since that would be where we are staying and traffic congestion would be bad on the west side of the Lake. After a quick review of the trails in this area, my suggestions are listed below:
1. Lake Margaret
2. Twin & Island Lakes
3. Gilmore Lake
4. Emigrant Lake

One short hike that didn't make the list, but I would recommend, is Winnemucca Lake. This is a 3-mile easy trail with a 10 quality rating (great view of snow-capped mountains and wildflowers).

I'm amazed at how many great hikes are in this area. It's going to be hard to pick just a few. Kirkwood reminds me of a Colorado ski resort and would be a great place to stay.

I was doing some work on adding and deleting hikes today when i saw your suggestions. Great minds think alike!! All of your suggested hikes are now included except for Twin & Island Lakes. I'll add that one in the next couple of days.

Thanks for your valuable input!

Even though it is a little depressing that my father-in-law is in better shape than I am, I think it is absolutely fantistic that you guys(and gals) are doing all this stuff. keep it up and I probably wont have to see you in my therapy clinic...

Beverly and I have officially committed to participating in the June hiking in the Lake Tahoe area. Both our son Rich (one of the original Traildogs - Grand Canyon trip) and our daughter Gina (her spouse Michael Batalia was one of the original Traildogs) are considering going if they can work it into their schedules. Have been looking at air fares the last two days and that is depressing. But looking at this web site and recalling events from Traildogs I and II brings back such great memories that I shall press on in preparation for Traildogs III!! I will only be bringing hiking clothes and equipment -- no spa with Roy this time!

Have the exact dates for hikes been determined? If Judy and I go (we really want to) we will have to come back Thursday to attend a friends wedding. We are trying to determine if it would be worthwhile going. Thanks, Royle

Met a couple of your younger "dogs" on the hike to Mt. Rose near Lake Tahoe on Tuesday June 24th. The smoke was terrible but I expect it had cleared somewhat by the time they reached the summit..

Didn't exchange names but one was from San Diego and the other from N. Carolina.

Hope they enjoyed their other hikes inspite of the smoke. we've been on all the routes listed on the left and all are great walks. Come back to Nevada/California when the weather is better. The Tahoe basin is a fabulous place to live and hike..

Dear Bill: Our friend, Stu Branch, gave me a lead to your website. We are very interested in hiking the Grand Canyon. Are there any plans for a group such as the Traildogs to do this activity again? Any suggestions on how to reserve space at the Phantom Ranch/ best time to go, etc. We would certainly welcome your thoughts and ideas. Karen Wright

Unfortunately we lost Bill Doll, the leader of the Trail Dog pack on February 4th 2010 to that dreaded taker of like -- cancer. How much we all miss him. The southeastern Trail Dogs plus Bills widow Linda and son Bill Jr from California joined us for a memorial hike last October to the top of Mt. Tennant where a commerative rock was placed. Bill had hiked thru there in 2006 and loved it very much. So, this is the first year following Bill passing and we all miss him so much. But, Bill would want all the Trail Dogs to continue to enjoy hiking!

And as he would have said -- Let the Old Race Horse keep on running!

Ok--this is pretty simple, and if people participate we should all do well on the final exam. Here's how it works:

Post your answers to any or all of the colorful "Sample Question" sheets. All you have to do to post is click the word "reply" located at the END of this post. Be sure to include which sheet you are answering. Below is an example (Answers are not correct):

Example:

Liberalism
1a 2b 3? 4d 5e 6a 7b 8c 9d

Socialism
1a 2b 3c 4? 5? 6a
_____________________

It will take less that 5 minutes to list all your answers. Any other discussion regarding the exams or exam questions are fine too. Good luck everybody and thanks to those who participate!
