For those who were not involved from the very beginning -
In 2002, the Summit High School Class of '57 had their 45th reunion in Brevard. NC. For the first time in 45 years, Bill Doll attended a class reunion, which happened to be co-hosted by one of his close high school buddies, Roy Cowan. During the Reunion weekend, we did a short hike in the mountains of North Carolina. After a great hike and discussion about our local NC hiking group, Bill suggested a hike to the bottom of The Grand Canyon for a stay at Phantom Ranch and then a hike back up to the South Rim. One thing led to another and finally a group of hiking friends from Brevard decided to join Bill and a friend Tom Krier from California on the adventure. It took almost two years to get reservations and put the hike together but we finally got it done in November, 2005. This was the genesis of the Traildogs. Take a look at the Traildogs I hike movie to get acquainted with the distinguished hikers that comprise today's Traildogs. A second meeting of the Traildogs was put together for 2006 in the mountains of North Carolina and the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Please take a look at the Traildogs II movies to get a feel for the natural beauty we experienced hiking together . . . as well as the fun we had partying together. We are presently planning a Traildogs III hike in the Lake Tahoe area in June of 2008. This promises to become another great Traildogs memory. So, a friendship and hiking tradition was born in 2005 that we hope will continue for some years to come. |
